Paralegal Program and Courses
Paralegals are key players in law offices and legal firms. Lawyers rely on them to perform the crucial duties that keep cases on track and ensure things don’t come to a costly grinding halt.
The Paralegal Assistant program provides a broad overview of the Canadian legal system, Legal Professional Act and Rules of the Law Society of BC. Students will learn about intellectual property, estates planning, and credit and collection procedures.
Other major topics include family law, real estate law, criminal law, commercial law, corporate law and insurance law. Students will also master legal office procedures and documentation as well as methods for legal research and interviewing.
A five-week practicum allows students to gain practical experience in legal setting.
Career opportunities include positions in law offices, firms and legal departments of large corporations. Additional employment opportunities exist in government offices, real estate firms, trust companies and other financial institutions.
