Travel and Tourism Diploma

With the 2010 Olympic Winter Games fast approaching, BC’s booming travel and tourism industry needs well-trained travel professionals. The Travel and Tourism Diploma program provides students with a broad knowledge of popular global destinations, including worldwide capitals, currency, geographical, historical and cultural information.

Following the curriculum of the Canadian Institute of Travel Counselors, students will learn about travel products, add-ons, travel trends as well as sales and marketing techniques for the travel industry. Additionally, ticketing procedures for domestic, trans-border and international airfares will be covered.

Students will also learn the process of electronic ticketing, calculating refunds, exchanges and International Air Transport Association (IATA) rates of exchange. They will practice the Apollo or Sabre airline reservation systems in a simulated online environment as well. A five-week practicum will provide hands-on experience in the travel and tourism industry.

Career opportunities: Travel counselor, flight attendant, airline customer service representatives as well as guest services agents for cruise lines, ski resorts, casinos and hotels.

Duration: 32 weeks (including practicum)
